Reasons to apply to UNH

There are millions of reasons to apply to UNH. Like, the fact that we have top-ranked programs in business, engineering and computer science. Or, that we’re ranked #6 for the safest college campus in the U.S. And have over 250+ student-run clubs and organizations. We’ve got more reasons than that. Scroll through to see our top five. Need more reasons? Here are our top 50.

    Location

An hour away in either direction from our main campus puts you in Boston or Portland. (You can catch the train right here on campus.) The White Mountains (think snow sports, hiking, mountain biking) are an hour north. The small city of Portsmouth is 20 minutes away; there you’ll find a great food scene, live music venues and outdoor cafes, along with an active waterfront.

    Academics

UNH is ranked among the top 50 public universities in the country. Between our three campuses, we offer more than 200 programs in 100 majors. Looking for research opportunities? As a land, sea and space grant institution, you’ll find plenty in our 50+ research centers where you can do work in such areas as franchising, public policy, NASA missions, renewable energy, agricultural experiments, genome studies and more.

    Size

UNH’s main campus has 13,000 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate students who represent 72 countries and 49 states. Eighty-three percent of classes have fewer than 50 students, contributing to an 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio. That means you’ll have ready access to your professors. You’ll also find 500+ study abroad programs whose duration lasts from three weeks to a year, giving you the chance to broaden your world.

    Student Experience

We’ve got 250 student-led organizations that will let you play, learn, lead and chase your passion. Want to play a recreational sport or join a club team? We’ve got them. We also have 20 top division athletic teams. UNH is a national leader in sustainability; our buildings are powered by gas from a landfill. And our three award-winning dining halls compost almost all food waste.

    Outcomes

Ninety percent of 2017 graduates are either working or are in graduate school. Of those who are employed, 91% are employed full time. That’s not surprising, with 500+ employers recruiting on campus and the 11 career fairs held here that draw more than 5,000 students. And with some of UNH’s 133,000 alumni around the world working at places like Google, Apple, Disney and the Bill and Melina Gates Foundation, it’s clear UNH is a good launching pad.
